Benji Bell named FCSAA Male Athlete of the Year

Benji Bell has been named the Florida College System Activities Association Male Athlete of the Year, the latest in a long list of accolades for the 6-4 guard from Gainesville, Fla.

Benji BellThis season, Bell helped lead the Northwest Florida State College Raiders basketball team to a 33-2 record and the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 championship and the NJCAA Division I national championship.

Bell averaged 17.4 points, 5.3 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals while shooting 49 percent from the field (including .445 percent from 3-point range) this season. He was named the Panhandle Conference Player of the Year, the Most Valuable Player in the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 tournament, and the FCSAA Player of the Year, and was also named to the national tournament All-Tournament team and the NJCAA All-American first team.

Bell has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Florida State University. In announcing his signing, FSU head coach Leonard Hamilton said: "Benji Bell is a proven player who will bring maturity to our lineup during his career as a Seminole. He has proven that he can play and proven that he can win at every level he has played at. Benji will be able to create a balance between our experienced players and our inexperienced players on our roster because of his ability and his maturity."
