Northwest Florida State College is an official "Military Friendly School" and offers a variety of specialized services and programs for members of the military, veterans and their dependents. Part of Florida's system of public higher education, NWF has an annual enrollment of more than 17,000 students at six campuses and centers in Okaloosa and Walton Counties.

NWFSC Hurlburt Center, Six College Locations

NWF State College operates a full time educational center at Hurlburt Field. The 265 acre NWFSC main campus is located in Niceville. A joint campus with the University of West Florida is located in Fort Walton Beach and NWFSC also operates centers in Crestview, DeFuniak Springs and South Walton. The NWFSC Hurlburt Center offers a variety of college courses every term scheduled during the day, lunch hour, evening or on weekends. The college also offers an extensive eCampus program. As a Servicemember's Opportunity College, NWFSC allows degree completion through transferring courses back to NWFSC in the event of a PCS move.

Veteran's Affairs Office

The NWFSC Veterans Affairs Office administers various veterans' and dependents' educational assistance benefit programs of the US Department of Veterans Affairs for students attending NWFSC. New students should visit the college's VA web page for information on using their benefits. All students are strongly encouraged to return all required paperwork to the Veterans Affairs Office at the main campus in Niceville, located in Financial Aid at the Student Services Center. The NWFSC Veterans Affairs office also provides information, guidance about entitlements, assistance filing claims to the DVA, certifies enrollments, and provides other supportive services for veteran students and eligible dependents enrolled at NWFSC.

Military Tuition Assistance (TA)

Eligible Active-Duty service members may receive up to $4,500 annually of Tuition Assistance (TA) toward a higher education at NWFSC. Because NWFSC offers among the lowest tuition and fees in Florida your education dollars go further at NWFSC. NWFSC is an official Department of Defense approved college for the MyCAA program which provides financial assistance to eligible military spouses with up to $4,000 for their education. NWFSC is your best choice for utilizing your MyCAA benefit. NWFSC offers:

NWFSC Admissions for MyCAA Participants

STEP 1: Apply for NWFSC admission online.
There is no charge to apply for admission to NWFSC.
STEP 2: Residency Form - Select option "G" from list and record the Active Duty member's name as the "Claimant".
STEP 3: Present copy of recent military orders to any campus to claim in-state tuition. Active Duty Dependent(s) name(s) must be on the orders, if not, must present military ID with sponsor's name.

The Spouse Center, through Military One Source, offers eligible military spouses comprehensive high-skill, high-wage education and career opportunities to support the pursuit of portable careers. MyCAA accounts may provide a $4,000 maximum benefit with a $2,000 fiscal year cap. Funding is limited to only Associate degrees or certifications and licensure programs.

Tuition/Fee Payment Using MyCAA Benefits

STEP 1: Go to Military One Source to start the process.
STEP 2: Select the branch of the armed services and register into the MyCAA program.
STEP 3: Input classes for the current semester of attendance.
STEP 4: Enter dollar amount for classes per credit without fees.
STEP 5: Visit MyCAA portal to check status.
STEP 6: Once status provides the official "Tuition Assistance" document,
print and deliver to NWFSC Business Office to pay for your classes.

Scholarship Opportunities - NWFSC Foundation

The NWFSC Foundation annually offers more than 300 scholarships including many which may provide preference to military members, veterans or their dependents. The application period is generally February through mid-April for scholarships which begin the following Fall term.

Credit for Military Training - CCAF to AS Degree

Do you have your Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) degree or are you striving to achieve it? Academic accomplishments are great for EPR's and for future resume enhancement! NWFSC offers a unique program where you may apply your CCAF credits toward a NWFSC Associate in Science (AS) degree in Industrial Management Technology. For information, contact the NWFSC Hurlburt Center. When you meet the CCAF to AS requirements, file your graduation intent form for the NWFSC Associate in Science degree in Industrial Management Technology.

  • Transfer up to 45 credits from a CCAF degree to count toward a second college degree.
  • If you have completed college credit at other institutions, send official transcripts to NWFSC and proceed with courses toward the AS degree.
  • Students must complete 15 credit hours at NWFSC to meet degree requirements.
  • Students must complete other degree requirements such as 18 hours of General Education (English, Humanities, Math, Social Science, Speech, Natural Science) and GEB 1214 Business and Supervision Technology.

Transfer Credit for Military Basic Training

With your AARTS transcript you can receive up to 4 college elective credits toward any Associate degree program at NWFSC.

Transfer Credit for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Programs

NWFSC has an agreement with the 7th Special Forces, 18 Delta Tactical Medic group to accept some of the Army training into the NWFSC Paramedic program for credit toward earning the Paramedic certificate and the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Associate in Science degree.

English-as-a-Second Language & Adult Education

NWFSC offers courses for adults in literacy, English-as-a-Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED preparation and job readiness skills. The course tuition is a low set fee of $30 per semester and includes all student materials and supplies. College readiness and career preparation services are free of charge to students enrolled in the Adult Education program. Registration dates and times are the same as for regular college semesters. Courses are offered at the college's Niceville and Fort Walton Beach campuses, and at the NWFSC Robert L.F. Sikes Center in Crestview, NWFSC Chautauqua Center in DeFuniak Springs, and the NWFSC South Walton Center in Santa Rosa Beach.
