Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra & Junior Orchestra
Established in 1998 through a grant from the Northwest Florida Symphony Guild, the
Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra (NFSYO) provides an encouraging atmosphere
where talent is nurtured and excellence is inspired.
The NFSYO is open to middle school, high school, and early collegiate students through the age of 21. A companion group, the Junior Orchestra at NWF State College, is an ensemble open to young students with a minimum of two years experience who are in grade levels 4th to 8th. This group is an intermediate ensemble to prepare students for the NFSYO. Both programs are part of Northwest Florida State College and housed at the college's main campus in Niceville, FL. Enroll through the college's Continuing Education Division. For Enrollment Info: NWF State College Continuing Education (850) 729-6084. For additional info on the youth orchestra programs, contact the college's Fine & Performing Arts Division at (850) 729-5382 or see www.NFSYO.org. While new members are accepted throughout the Fall and Spring semesters, it is preferable for student musicians to enroll at the start of the academic term. Merit and needs based scholarships are available.
Participants in the Northwest Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra (NFSYO) and Junior Orchestra benefit from the state-of-the-art facilities of the Mattie Kelly Fine & Performing Arts Center at NWF State College in Niceville and instruction by NWF State College music faculty. The NFSYO works in close collaboration with the music director and performers of the professional Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra (NFSO) to foster the development necessary for musical and personal success.
